P4L alumnus Branislav Nišić, together with "TraNSfer" psychology club, Student’s Association of the Faculty of Philosophy, Students of the Art Academy in Novi Sad, and other students and profesors of the University of Novi Sad organized an action in order to help the Safe house for Children that are victims of violence and neglect in Novi Sad.
The Safe house is in constant need for clothing, toys and other things for children of all ages. Other than that the safe house it self was in pretty bad shape since interior walls were not painted since it was open in 2004.
They started this action by placing a collection box on our faculty and organizing a promotion campaign at the Faculty and at the University Square. During this promotion volunteers (dressed in the T-shirts we printed out) handed out flyers and informed the students about the action. After that they organized a promotional party in “Piping", a popular club in Novi Sad. The students were asked to bring some sweets for the kids as a kind of an “entry fee”. During this party they managed to collect over 20 kg of sweets.
On the 22nd of April they organized a whole day field trip for the kids in cooperation with the students’ organization “Students' Association of the Faculty of Philosophy”. They prepared the meals for the kids and even had some children animator volunteers help organize children activities during the trip.
After that, 15 volunteers from the psychology club with help from 5 students from Art Academy in Novi Sad painted the part of the interior of the house and refurbished the murals that were already painted.
The grant for this event provided refreshments for the volunteers, and the Safe House staff provided the lunch in their cafeteria. After the action the volunteers gave the leftover paint (that was used for mural) and paint brushes to the Volunteers from the Art Academy. All other leftover materials and tools were donated to the Safe House for future actions.
The grass seed was also bought and donated so it can be planted in the Safe House yard.
Branislav and other volunteers also bought and donated a lot of toys for the children including a slide for the youngest children.
Over 40 bags of clothes and toys were collected from the collection box and all this was donated together with the toys. They also got the donations from the companies “Wood Art” (produces toys) and “Fruvita” (produces juice and baby food).
Over 30 people volunteered on the project. The entire action was covered by several newspapers, radio and TV stations. |
