At the beginning of the April my friends and I visited a few Roma's communities in Belgrade and talked to their main representatives about what they need and what would be helpful to do for their community. By interviewing them we found out that they would be the happiest if they can receive any help for their children. A week later we decided that it would be the best if we can provide Roma’s children with toothpaste and tooth brushes. First of all, that would improve their dental care and create the needed habit among kids while they are still young. We were aware that there are a lot of Roma’s families in Belgrade who can not afford basic products for them and their children. Fortunately, from time to time the citizens of Belgrade provide Roma’s community in their neighborhoods with soap and body care products but it looks like that dental care is often forgotten.
On 21st of April, my friends and I went to two Roma’s communities and brought thousands of toothbrush and toothpaste. We decided to go on Saturday early morning because we wanted to see as much as possible kids who were not in school that day. And we made to meet a lot of kids that morning and afternoon. They were so happy that we came. I got a sense that they didn’t have idea what was going on and who we were but whole that atmosphere seemed appealing and funny to them. We were so happy that we made to distribute all toothbrush and toothpaste to kids and not to any adults.
After that day all my friend and I felt so fulfilled and good not just because we helped someone but because we got such a great feedback from kids. On way back home they asked us when we would come back. They didn’t like us because we brought them presents but because they saw that someone cares about them and wants to spend some time with them. Although sometimes Roma’s kids feel excluded I can guarantee that day they spent a really good day with us and I hope we will be able to see them again soon.
