Bosnian Undergraduate Program Alumni Welcome Newly Returned Alumni Back to Bosnia

On September 30, 2005, seven alumni of the Bosnian Undergraduate Program (BUPD), a program of the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs and administered by American Councils for International Education, participated in a re-entry seminar designed to welcome them and assist with their transition to their home country. American Councils organized this event, which was co-conducted with older alumni of BUDP. The event addressed topics such as reverse culture shock, dealing with changed relationships, sharing of experiences, and looking forward to ways alumni can share their experiences with others, and contribute to their communities.

Alumni discussed their various experiences in the United States, evaluated their experience and what they learned/how they changed, and held a brainstorming activity for future alumni events designed to strengthen the alumni community, and work as a team to affect change in their country. A professional development workshop was also conducted which covered topics such as resume writing, cover letter, and interview skills. Together, the group proposed a list of activities they will carry out over the coming month.

The BUDP alumni community, which now numbers more than 25, remains committed to civic activism, professionalism, and communicating an accurate picture of the United States to their friends, families, and acquaintances at home. Older alumni now work in all facets of society, including government, business, and NGO communities. Funding for BUDP alumni activities comes in part from the US Department of State/ECA and activities are supported and administered by American Councils for International Education.
