American Experience
Tell us about your time in the U.S.

The time I spent in the US was a very rewarding experience in many ways. Not only was it professionally beneficial, in terms of advancing my own knowledge in the areas of interest to me, it also enabled me to get to know a different educational system, the way US university system works, how the areas that I am interested in are dealt with in the teaching process at an American university, and many other things. I was also very happy when I was given the opportunity to tutor some American PhD students, which was such a valuable experience that could not be compared to anything I have experienced so far in my teaching practice.

How was your internship experience?

What were your impressions of the U.S.?

It was certainly an exciting and new way of living and working for me. As we all had been warned, the US truly is a country of diversity, at all social levels. One could say it's the whole world in one country. An irreplaceable experience!

Looking Ahead
What are you working on now?

Right now I am doing my regular job at the English Language Department, teaching a course in contemporary English language. I am also working on my PhD thesis, and that is my main preoccupation. However, I've experienced some degree of negative effects upon my return from the US – namely, I was appointed Departmental secretary, and I've loads of paperwork to deal with, as well as administrative work, thus preventing me to a large extent from being fully able to implement what I have learned in the US. I guess it was a “reward” for me as I had spent the previous year “resting” in the US , as some of the faculty would often point out to me here.

What are your plans for the future?

My main goal for the future is completing my PhD dissertation, so that I can continue my active participation in the academic world in my country and contribute to the further scientific and educational development.
