JFDP Alumna Jelena Runic helps American and Serbian youth to get to know each other
In May 2005, while being a Visiting Scholar at Indiana University , JFDP Alumna Jelea Runic had the chance to give 4 video conference presentations entitled,“ Yugoslavia : Its Present and Past” for a high school in Coopersville , Michigan. The name of the last part of the presentation was “Letters from Serbia ”. Having been an English teacher in Nova Pazova, Serbia, 1995-2004, Ms. Runic asked her students from Serbia to send letters and photos for the Michigan students. As a result, five students from Serbia and five students from Michigan developed friendship and mutual understanding. In addition, the project allowed students form Serbia to practice their English on a regular basis.
Ms. Runic hopes to continue developing the relationship between her students in Serbia and students in the U.S.
