JFDP Alumna Radmila Popovic's students teach in order to learn

In this pilot project, students – volunteers spend 7 working days at a primary, secondary or private language school working with the cooperating teacher. They are required to observe classes of their cooperating teacher following previously set up guidelines, discuss what they have seen with the teacher and me, participate in the lesson planning with the cooperating teacher, plan and teach segments of lessons, and finally teach whole lessons on their own.

On completing the project, they hand in a including reports on observed classes, lesson plans and a reflective paper on their teaching, including discussion of teaching techniques they applied and materials they used, analysis of specific problems that have occurred and the overall assessment of areas of teaching which have been successful, and ones needing improvement. The portfolio is regarded as an alternative form of a term paper the students are required to write.
